The time of planning a baby shower is a special one. An expecting mom could be the happiest person in the world should she give birth to a little angel. And in anticipation of the new baby, baby showers are commonly held about three months before the baby is born. It is possible to hold it after the baby is born. It has advantages in doing that plus it would be little easier selecting gifts if it were held after. A higher percentage though holds it before the baby’s birth.

Shopping for baby shower gifts and items could be very fun. You can give anything for the baby, from baby consumables to playthings. Choosing the best gift can be trick. To assists you in picking, you can check out these suggestions:

Buy something that the baby will use frequently. You can buy baby ointments, baby lotions, diapers, wipes, baby power, and other stuff, and place them all in a basket or any appropriate container. All babies use diapers, and no mom can live without it now a days. Most moms usually think this as a practical gift because if they get enough of it from guests, they need not purchase diapers for the baby until after a few months. That’s big convenience and big savings for them. Running out of diapers during the night could be a nightmare. You can also add some medicines and vitamins for the baby. This could come in handy in times of need.

Buy something fun for the baby. You can buy toys. Good toys are those that move and produce sounds. Buy something that can be mounted on the crib. Suggestions can be baby tape player, vibrator seats, swings, bouncy seats, high chairs, or walkers. The list is endless. These toys also enhance a baby’s mind development through color, object, and sound recognition.

Buy some cute clothes. Although this could be risky since you don’t know the gender the baby will be, or its weight upon birth. Try to buy rompers and shirts in medium sizes. This way you can be sure the baby can wear what you bought at least a few times. Don’t buy clothes that need ironing because that’s added task for moms and you wouldn’t want that, of course.

Buy something useful for mommy. Gifts assisting moms caring for the baby is such a good idea. You can buy a baby carrier or slinger. It is very helpful for moms to get some cooking or cleaning done while carrying the baby. A helpful device you can buy is a diaper genie to help keep the smell down from used diapers.

Buy something for moms too. True, baby showers are for the babies. But moms, with all the excitement that they feel towards giving birth, can be apprehensive about the idea too. You can give gift certificates to moms from a shop or mall. You can give moms books or magazines about parenting. You can give them coupons from a Laundromat or a professional house cleaner. You can prepare for them a dinner for one night and send it over. Or better yet, give delivery stubs from pizza parlors so in the event dinner can’t be cooked, food can be driven over.

Baby showers are held to welcome the baby to the world. Sometimes, baby showers are held only for the first-born. It would be nice to have a shower for each of your new born child so that the baby would feel well received and wanted even from the mommy’s womb. Babies are cute little blessings families are given with. Let’s greet them even before they come out and join us!

Studies suggest the humble, low-tech rocker can ease the stress and anxiety brought on by our high pressure, high-tech lives. Research has long confirmed what new mothers learn very quickly: rocking soothes babies, possibly because the motion mimics the sensation of being carried in the womb. The gentle back and forth of rocking transforms crying into cooing and magically changes a wakeful infant into one who sleeps well, like a baby!

But less has been known about rocking’s effect on adults. One recent study reveals the welcome news that rocking is as good for grandma and grandpa as it is for baby. Researchers recently conducted a study to examine the effect of rocking on nursing home residents who were suffering from dementia due to Alzheimer’s disease or other causes. For six weeks, the 25 men and women rocked from 30 to 80 minutes every day. Subsequently, the rocking mechanism was disabled on the platform rockers and the result was observed.

During the first six weeks, nearly half the study group exhibited less anxiety, disorientation, tension and depression. Those who rocked 80 minutes per day showed the most dramatic difference, requesting pain medication less often and having fewer episodes of anxiety and depression. Researchers noted that those who achieved the greatest benefit were those who rocked for the longest amount of time over the course of the day, not necessarily during one sitting. They also noticed that when emotionally distraught residents were helped into rocking chairs and began rocking, the motion immediately calmed them.

An additional benefit was observed: rocking improved the balance of the study group, possibly because the rocking motion helps stimulate the body’s ability to maintain balance. Though researchers have not documented rocking’s effect on adults in mid-life, evidence suggests that it must be as soothing for baby boomers as it is for their parents and children. Demand for rocking chairs has soared during the past few decades, and the plain wooden rocker has diversified to suit the tastes of both the chic set and couch potatoes, in the process spawning a whole category of furniture.

Swivel rockers, glider rockers, hanging chairs have gained popularity. And now even round, flat, floating beds that rock an adult or child with a very slight head to toe motion all night long have been created to meet this need. The advantage of the head to toe rocking motion while lying down is that the lymphatic system gets a gentle, rocking massage up and down the length of the body resulting in a feeling of ease and balance.

As science is beginning to discover, the use of rocking has clear-cut health benefits. In babies, rocking recreates the soothing rhythm of being in the womb. For older folks, rocking stimulates blood flow and facilitates the gentle, rhythmic contraction and relaxation of back muscles.

The population is rocking! Not a bad way to relieve stress.

John Huff, the inventor of the Floating Bed has created many new and useful products. With a deep respect for the health benefits of good sleep he has designed the round Floating Hanging Bed to be the best bed in the world, the bed of your dreams that rocks you to sleep.

Probably one of the hardest adjustments of having a new baby is the lack of sleep that goes hand in hand with your baby needing regular feeds throughout the night. If your baby is hungry it needs to be fed, but there are a few things that can help your baby settle for longer until it is only hunger that will wake him or her in the night. By six months most babies do not need a night time feed if they have fed well during the day and are not ill.

First 9 Months Sleep Advice

When your baby is newborn, after having 9 months of a nice snug womb and your body noises and motions to settle them, sometimes the adjustment to the outside world can cause more night wakings than is just down to hunger. It is important to remember newborn babies have no concept of time, night or day, so it will take time for them to fall into a pattern. With your help though, it is perfectly possible to have them sleeping through by six months.
Making sure your baby is ready to sleep first of all is most important. With newborns, as they are so tiny they will mostly drift off to sleep when they are ready but from around 3 months this can change and they may need you to notice the signs of tiredness and help them to settle.

Ready to Sleep Checklist

Is your baby well fed, clean, dry and winded?
Is your baby in good health? Illness can either make babies sleep more or make them find it hard to sleep.
Is your baby tired enough? Some say most newborns up to three months of age find it hard to stay awake more than two hours without becoming overtired and miserable. Some babies yawn, rub their eyes or pull at their ears when they are tired, watch for signs.
Is your baby too tired? Overtiredness can mean that a baby will find it very hard to settle due to too much stimulation and lack of sleep. A nice dim lit room, a bit of soothing can help your baby to sleep in this case. Trying to catch your baby before he or she becomes overtired will also help.

If your baby is most of these he or she will most likely be ready for a sleep.

Getting a balance with day time naps can also help your baby to sleep longer. It is generally agreed most babies before 6 months need around 3 naps in a day and will sleep roughly an hour before waking, however all babies are different! If your baby is waking a lot int he night and you dont think it is caused by anything but lack or tiredness have a look at your babies sleep in the day and see if you can help encourage your baby to have less or more at certain times. You can never force a baby though, so if your baby really wont tweak his or her naps, you may have to try again in a few weeks or so.
Have a think about your babies sleeping place as well to help encourage a more settled sleep. Is the room warm but not too warm? It is recommended a babies sleeping room should be constant between 16-18 degrees. Is the room very light? Some babies may find it hard to settle in a bright room, having the room kept dim can help them settle better and also begin to teach them the difference between night and day as well as teach them that when they go into a dark room it is most likely time for a sleep. Is the room noisy or the surroundings of it? Some babies like to hear noise when sleeping, others can be easily disturbed by it so it could be something to watch for.
Swaddling is something that can be considered for helping your baby to sleep well. Swaddling is the method of wrapping your baby nice and snug in a blanket, with arms and legs by its sides and only the top of the shoulders and head uncovered. The reason this is believed to work so well with some babies is that it replicates the snug feeling of the womb and also that babies are born with the ‘moro reflex’ (startle reflex) meaning that sometimes when they are drifting off to sleep and their arms and legs begin to go limp, they can get the sensation of falling and suddenly jerk awake. Also any loud noises near by can cause a new baby to fling out its arms and legs in shock and begin to cry. Having your baby swaddled helps control the moro reflex, but it should be understood that not all babies necessarily will like being swaddled. By six months old the moro reflex is minimal or totally gone. Swaddling is really only for the first 3-4 months of a babies life after that, your baby will need to move about a bit and be able to release body heat to prevent over heating.
If your baby is one who does not like to swaddled, some mums swear by a baby gro bag (baby sleeping bag) that leaves babies arms out and whilst the legs are obviously inside they are not held firm like the swaddle. Being in a baby gro bag has the added benefit that baby will not wriggle out of it and so wake up cold in the night. Be aware though that like duvets there are different thicknesses of gro bags from 0.5 tog being extra light to 3 tog being extra warm. Most gro bags come with instructions regarding this but make sure you have a read before use.
Having a ‘wind down’ routine can help as well. Although babies below six months are very young to use a routine with, it is possible to have the beginnings of one. Giving your baby a nice lukewarm bath, a baby massage with some oil (even f you dont know how to do this, your baby will love you to just stroke him or her) followed by a breastfeed or a warm bottle of milk in a dim lit room, perhaps even with some low music playing will help your baby realise that when all this is happening, he or she will be in bed soon and be ready to sleep.
Using aids such as rocking, dummies or feeding to sleep do all help though sometimes your baby can begin to rely on whichever as the only way he or she can settle to sleep, so when your baby wakes in the early hours of the morning, he or she could come to need you to provide whichever aid they are used to sleeping with. If you would like to avoid this, it can help to use rocking or dummy or a feed as a wind down to get your baby sleepy but try to avoid them actually falling alseep whilst in the process. Gently rousing your baby slightly as you settle him or her into bed for the night will help them begin to learn how to settle off to sleep by themselves. If your baby is waking for a feed after 6 months of age and you are certain he or she does not really need to be feeding (talk to health visitor first) then you can begin to dilute down your babies milk to encourage him or her to drop the feed.

10 months to 18 months Sleep Advice

As your baby gets older, his or her sleeping patterns can change. He or she may need less sleep during the day and become harder to settle.
Having a set bedtime routine will now be very effective in helping your growing baby understand the signals and become sleepy for bedtime. Again, giving your baby a warm bath, a baby massage with baby oil, and then perhaps going into your babies room and sitting down together, reading a book to your baby, will make for a good bedtime routine. If your baby is old enough, offering a beaker of milk whilst reading will keep your baby calm and settled.
Some babies like to have a comforter during the long hours of the night. A soft cuddly toy or special comforters such as cuskees bought from mothercare or such places can become your child’s firm friend and help them sleep better. Sleeping with your chosen comforter for a night or two before giving to your child will provide comfort to your child in the fact he or she will be able to smell you from the toy.
Avoid watching tv too close to bedtime. Most studies conclude babies who watch a lot of tv especially before bed are much more likely to have unsettled sleeps.
Your child may still be happy to be in a gro bag at this stage, which is totally acceptable and can help gently restrict your babies ability to try to get up and about in the cot. However from12 months of age, it can be a novelty to your baby to introduce a child’s duvet and pillow, especially if you let your child pick his or her own (more around 18 months).
If you find your baby is waking in the night and the timing is pretty regular, it could be a habit your child has made. To gently break this, there is a method called ‘gradual withdrawl’. This means when your baby cries, you can go in and soothe your baby but without picking your baby up. You can do this perhaps by humming softly or stroking babies forehead. Reassure your baby that you are there. Try to avoid turning bright lights on and talking loudly, keep it nice and quiet and sleepy. After a few minutes, sit by the cot on a chair and keep very softly reassuring your baby that you are there. If your baby is happy to settle knowing you are near by, the following evening if your baby again wakes, this time you can move the chair further away from the cot. Continue moving the chair further away until you are by the door. Once you reach the door you may now find that after a quick reassurance your baby will settle if you leave the room. It can take a few weeks and you should avoid letting your baby become hysterical but being patient, gentle and reassuring and providing there is no other reason for your abby to be waking that for reassurance, he or she should begin to settle soon.

As a parent to a new baby, you’re likely seeing life with a whole new set of eyes. While your feelings of unconditional love and devotion are quickly changing your perception of the world, it’s certainly not a stretch to confess that just about every detail in your life has gone through a major transformation. Beyond the dramatic changes to your sleeping pattern, your work schedule, and your lifestyle, your home has likely had a facelift as well. Your once clean and organized surroundings have been overtaken by the insurmountable items that your tiny bundle requires. And, while it seems inevitable that your baby is only going to need more things as he or she grows, you’ve quickly realized that your bank account is dwindling. Fortunately, many other parents have been there before and have survived by opting to rent baby equipment, supplies, and products from reputable online companies.

The Growth Factor: All new parents share the same surprising reaction when they realize that a baby doesn’t stay tiny for long. Somehow, between the baby’s first days out of the womb to the days of first words and first steps, time slips away. As the days turn into weeks and then months, your baby will outgrow everything from clothes and toys to playpens and highchairs at a shocking rate. Rather than putting your pocketbook through round after round of new sizes and products, consider renting items that your baby will outgrow quickly. Out with the Old, In with the New: Let’s face it. Although a new baby is welcomed and celebrated, you’ve likely scoffed at the amount of space you’ve had to give up to make room for your new addition. Why fill your closets with safety gates and high chairs that the baby won’t be able to use for the first few months? Similarly, why unpack new baby accessories only to put old, outgrown items away to collect dust? By renting, you can save the storage space and begin a more logical cycle of renting only what you need, when you need it. You’ll be amazed at both the cost and space savings that will follow.

Travel with Ease: Having a baby shouldn’t restrict you from getting out of the house. In fact, you’ll likely welcome the opportunity to travel with the baby, showing him or her off to new places and new faces. If you thought packing was a hassle in the past, you’re in for a rude awakening now that you have a child as a travel companion. But, like most things in life, there’s always an easier option. Rather than loading your pack-n-play, high chair, and swings, contact a company that specializes in baby gear rentals and have all your baby equipment needs sent right to your destination. If your travel plans take you to Grandma and Grandpa’s house, ask your parents to become familiar with baby rental options near their home. They’ll jump at the opportunity to make their grandchild’s visit easier for everyone. And, because new locations often mean different climates and new sightseeing opportunities, renting is once again a better choice than buying new. For example, if you’re traveling to warm weather, you might opt to rent everything from a sandbox and toys to a safety gate that will allow the baby to take advantage of the warmth of the outdoors. Or, if you’re headed on a mountain adventure, rent a hiking pack specifically designed to carry your miniature companion.

Benefit from your Baby’s Belongings: Unless you’re willing to host one garage sale after another, chances are that your outgrown baby items will one day need to find a new home. After all, you’ll have to make room for all the “big kid” items your child will soon demand. Once again, the rental market is the logical and economical answer. Online rental companies make it easy for you to make money by renting your old baby items to others. Rather than letting your old items grow mold in the basement, list them on an online site and make money by passing on the benefit of your item to another new parent. Save your parenting adventures for the real challenges of teething and potty training rather than late-night budget crunches and endless shopping trips. When you open yourself and your baby up to the rental world, you’ll soon find that your options become as bountiful as your joy.

Those who support murdering children in the womb are in a tizzy with the news how of a former Planned Parenthood director in Texas, Abby Johnson, turning away from the organization after witnessing a child actually being aborted on ultrasound and its life literally being sucked out. Oh, it is not good news for an organization that survives on the industry of murdering babies, keeping quiet its atrocities and sugar coating them while actively promoting a hideous holocaust whose toll is in the tens of millions. Nothing irks the “free thinking” liberals of the abortion movement more than to call them murders and comparing their act to Hitler and the NAZIs against the Jews. It makes them wince at the mere insinuation. But the truth is the truth.

In recent years, and as technology continues to advance, the pro-murder of children crowd has lost support. The average person might not be able to understand how even by the most basic of biological standards that “lump of cells” is a human life from the moment of conception but what they can understand by just watching ultrasounds is that at just eight to nine weeks that “lump of cells” looks too human to deny its true nature. Of course “looking” like a human being is not the standard of human life and never has been although it is one of the extra conditions the pro-baby murdering crowd tries to tack on to the definition of life in order to justify their wrongheaded beliefs. A newly hatched tadpole doesn’t look like an adult frog but only an idiot would claim that the tadpole is not alive.

There are other superfluous claims that the liberal baby killers will also try to make as well. Sometimes they will claim that the baby is not alive because it is a “parasite.” But so are tapeworms and leeches and no one with even a basic understanding of biology claims that these animals are not alive. They will claim that because the “lump of cells” has no ability for higher thought that it is not a living being. Well, bacteria have no mental capacity either and once again they are most certainly alive. Sometimes they get the idea that because this very young child cannot survive on its own means that it is not alive either. Oh, I am sure that the parent of the 2 week old or the quadriplegic in the hospital who are completely dependant on others will be glad to hear of this standard of “life.” Then when they are really desperate they claim that the mother should not be “punished” by being forced to host this vile organism inside of her. Of course they have no qualms about “punishing” the child and stripping life from it without the child having done a single thing to warrant such.

Yep, it is a pretty pathetic existence those that try to rationalize their anti-life, anti-child and pro-murder stance live day in and day out. Thankfully though more and more people each year are awakening to the horror of abortion and the sinister types who work for Planned Parenthood, an organization which follows gleefully in the footsteps of infamous eugenicist and racist Margaret Sanger, and they have fewer and fewer people to prey on each year in order to sustain themselves. Yes, abortion is big business, and a huge special interest that generates lots of cash for those in the racket.

There is, however, a good way to speed up the rejection of the murdering of innocent human life however. And while the murdering of children should not be a game, perhaps making it one for the proponents of such acts would see how much they really believe in their own ideology and theory that that “lump of cells” is not a living human being.

We could call it, “Would You Bet Your Life?” and it would be very simple. Every abortion proponent would be brought in one by one every time there was an abortion about to be performed. They would be sat in a room before two buzzers. Before them would be placed two sets of DNA; one from themselves and one from the child that they would normally want to abort. They must pick one and the person belonging to the one they pick gets their life ended. They will get to study the choices as much as they like and come to a conclusion as to which is not a human being and which is not alive. If that “lump of cells” is not either than it should be relatively easy right?

In reality though it would basically be a 50-50 game of Russian roulette for the pro-baby murder supporter sitting in the chair. And you know damn well that no proponent of killing babies in the womb would ever take this challenge because they could never tell the difference between that “lump of cells” (a very young human being) and themselves in such a scenario and they would have to wildly guess each time they were called in to participate. Sure, they might get lucky a couple times but even the brain dead supporters of abortion know that their luck will run out and that their own life will be snuffed out. Perhaps by having their brains sucked out of there skulls or some other grotesque means like they love to see done to helpless children.

Most of the people that support abortion know that that thing inside the mother’s womb is a human child from the moment of conception. But they need a reality check to get them to stop being so cavalier about how to treat it. When their own life has to be put on the line perhaps that will be the trigger to kicking their brain into gear and they will decry the violence and disgusting acts that they support day in and day out.

Are you looking for furniture designs? Try our pages about interior decoration, real estate and furniture designers like Eero Saarinen.

Eero Saarinen was born to Eliel Saarine, who was an accomplished Finnish architect and the founder president of the Cranbrook Academy of Art. Twenty three years after the turn of the twentieth century, Eero Saarinen migrated together with his family members to the United States.

Eero Saarinen plunged into the design world by first studying sculpture at an institution which was called Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris between 1929 and 1930. He later proceeded to Yale University, where he studied architecture graduating four years later in 1934.

After graduating with an architecture degree from Yale University, he was awarded a scholarship which enabled him to travel to Europe. He returned from Europe in 1935 and started a teaching career at Cranbrook Academy of Art. His collaboration with Charles Eames saw them come up with exemplary furniture designs which won them several awards.

Eero Saarinen became a naturalised citizen of the United States of America in nineteen forty. He later joined the military and worked under the Office of Strategic Services, yielding to the demands of one his friends who was also an architect and who played a big role in his recruitment into the army.

His brief in the military included designing disassembly manuals for bombs as well as providing designs for the Situation Room, which was located within the White House. Eero Saarinen worked for the military up to 1944. Six years later, after his father’s death, he established his own design firm which he named Eero Saarinen and Associates.

He had two children from his first wife, whom he divorced. He later married a woman by the name of Aline Bernstein, with whom he had a son. The award that Eero Saarinen won in the “Organic Design in Home Furnishings” while still working for his father propelled him to international recognition. The project which he handed in for the competition was done in collaboration with Charles Eames.

Most of the furniture designs done by Eero Saarinen were produced by the Knoll furniture company. The Knoll Company was owned by a family friend of the Saarinens. In 1948, Eero Saarinen took the first prize in a competition which was meant to come up with the best design for the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, St. Louis. However, the prize was mistakenly sent to his father because during that time he was still working under his father’s tutelage.

Some of the masterpieces that Eero Saarinen came up with during his association with the Knoll Company included the “Grasshopper” lounge chair which was designed in 1946, and the “Womb” chair and settee in 1948 and 1950 respectively. Some of these designs are still being produced today because they are classical designs.

Eero Saarinen also worked together with his father on several architectural designs, including the General Motors Technical Centre in Warren, Michigan. This project served as a marketing tool for the Saarinens as they were called upon by several other companies to design their headquarters. The interiors of these buildings were also designed by the Saarinens, in addition to the furniture.

One thing that most people desire and aspire to in their homes is to create comfort, a place where you can kick your shoes off after a long, hard day, sit down in some comfortable furniture and relax – what better way than in a womb chair. What furniture could be more comfortable than a womb chair, something that is named after what was probably our most comforting and warm, not to mention safe, place in our whole entire lives: our mothers’ wombs?

The Birth of the Womb Chair

The womb chair started by way of a challenge issued by Florence Knoll to Eero Saarinen, the Finnish architect and designer. In 1948, Florence Knoll gave a challenge to Saarinen to design a chair that she could comfortably curl herself up in. Fortunately for her, she issued the challenge to the right person. Saarinen proved he was up to this challenge and created a womb chair, that remains popular to this day.

The womb chair, as designed by Eero Saarinen, consists of a lap-type form that somewhat envelopes the body, and thus, is somewhat reminiscent of the wrap-around comfort that we, as babies, found in our mothers’ wombs. This womb chair remains today one of the most recognized symbols of Scandinavian organic modernism from the mid-1900s, and is one of the many designs that holds Eero Saarinen in infamy. Indeed, if you took a poll amongst architects and designers on their favorite lounge chair, most will agree that Eero Saarinen’s iconic womb chair ranks higher than most.

A Little History on Eero Saarinen

Eero Saarinen lived in Finland with his parents until 1923. His mother was a textile artist and his father was a well-known architect and town planner. It is obvious, therefore, to see how Eero Saarinen became both an architect and designer. Eero Saarinen developed his reputation as an architect and designer in the United States after the end of World War II. Eero considered architecture a discipline similar to the fine arts, with specific emphasis on sculpture. He considered himself a “form giver”, and thus, all of his designs had a very strong sculptural-type quality, as does the womb chair. Saarinen was a student at Yale University, after which he traveled through Europe before returning to the United States. At some point Saarinen became associated with Knoll Associates, where the ultimate challenge was issued, resulting in the famous womb chair. Saarinen went on to design many other furniture pieces for Knoll, apart from the womb chair, with many of his chair designs holding an important place in 20th Century history. Eero Saarinen died in 1961 at the young age of 51.

Specifics on the Womb Chair

The Saarinen womb chair is manufactured by Knoll according to exact specifications of Saarinen’s original womb chair design. The womb chair is accompanied by an ottoman for complete comfort. The womb chair and ottoman are made in the United States and consist of foam which is applied over a molded fiberglass shell, which creates one single piece designed to perfectly recreate a relaxed sitting position. There is a slender steel rod base, which is chrome-plated, with the end product being a polished mirror finish. There are many fabric options which can be used to upholster the womb chair and ottoman including mohair, boucle and cato. The womb chair and ottoman come in a variety of colors. This womb chair is not inexpensive, however. For the womb chair itself, you will spend somewhere between $3,000 and $4,300. The ottoman costs approximately $1,200. Although your wallet may take a little bit of a hit, purchasing a womb chair will not only fetch you something that is considered a landmark design in our history, but will also buy you a piece of furniture that guarantees to bring you the comfort and relaxation that so many of us desire.
